Trip to Toronto
Back in 2000, I made my first business trip. While not working for
DEC or Intel. while I was working for a previous company, we'd bought
out a MES company in Toronto. And they'd announced that they were looking
for people with relavant skills, which might be 'transferrable'
The trip to Toronto, was a "training trip" for a week to be
part of the group finding out about the company which we'd aquired,
One of the notable things about this trip was that I'd flown to Canada,
and forgotten my passport at home, surprisingly in those pre 9-11 days,
they let me on the plane anyways.
Leaving, only the ticket agent asked.
Ay, Canada's a different country, not a state in the US, okay buddy?
And he let me on anyways. I think Canadian INS, must've just looked
at me, after I said "forgot it at home" and waved me through.
Returning back into the United State,
Returning wasn't a problem either, apparently at Pearson you clear
immigration to enter the US, in the airport in Canada. I showed the
INS agent my driver's license and explained my story. He just asked
'So you went to Berkeley? Who's the most famous person there.... upon
which I responded "Andrew Martinez... aka the naked guy" the
INS agent looked boggled "Anyone else, say a math professor?"
How was I supposed to know he was looking for me to say the Unabomber.
