Apparently Malaysia and Singapore Airlines, are the big carriers in the region. Probably analgous to the Luftansa and British Airways of SE Asia. Even though their shuttle flights are cheap, and frequent. There's a low fare carrier in the Ryanair/Southwest model coming in to challenge them on the KL-Penang/KL-Singapore corridor. Internet only bookings, absolutley no frills, and mind bogglingly cheap fares. Unsurprisingly, Air Aisa the competitor, sometimes doesn't fly into the big airport for regulatory reasons. Thus they'll fly you from KL-International to Johor. And then put you on a bus to Singapore. Not the most elegant intermodal way of traveling, but cheap and efficent.
